About Frameskin

Frameskin grew from a desire to protect my own bikes from the scuffs, scratches and chips that cycling fun would throw at them. I’d always found it pretty easy to spend a lot of money on a bike, but found there was nothing on the market offering decent protection for them, and certainly nothing that came near to offering the level of protection that I wanted for my playthings. So I decided to make my own.

My work in the design, graphics and signage industry had me well placed to work on a solution, so I researched high performance protective films, adhesives and application techniques. After considerable testing, I found a base material with excellent characteristics for frame protection. I handmade shapes to go on my then race bikes and while looking rather dodgy compared to the kits I manufacture now, the material worked brilliantly at protecting the paint work. I also made shapes to cover the cranks and other parts and started to see the possibilities for a niche business. I invested in the manufacturing equipment and perfected the techniques for custom shaping protective film kits for bikes.

The first genuine Frameskin kit was created for my Ibis Mojo and I posted some images on MTBR and my inbox started to swell with enquiries about doing kits for their bikes. Since then, I have sent kits around the world for Mojos and many other bike brands. The range of bikes with a custom-shaped Frameskin kit is growing steadily and relies mainly on the generous support of local bike shops to feed me with new models and increasingly Australian bicycle importers.

People who are passionate about bikes understand the idea right away, and many riders are delighted with the comprehensive nature of these kits. Protect Your Plaything™ with Frameskin.

Designed and made in Canberra, Australia. The global headquarters for Frameskin is actually a small room in my house. In the wee hours, evenings and weekends I take over other rooms as I launch into a custom shaping frenzy for whatever bikes I can get my hands on.
